Windows 8 Installation Tips

Introduction

This document is an informational guide for setting up Restaurant Manager on the Windows 8 software platform. Instructions are given for enhanced performance when running Restaurant Manager on a Windows 8 computer along with network performance issues.

ASI has been able to run on the two versions of Windows 8:

Windows 8 Pro 32 bit
Windows 8 64 bit

Please note that all home version of any Windows product should be avoided and are not supported by ASI Tech Support..

Please take into consideration that our tests are conducted in a limited environment. It is difficult for ASI to replicate all the hardware and software permutations for an over testing process. ASI strongly suggests you contact your third party hardware and software vendors to insure they are compatible Windows 8.

During Testing ASI found running Restaurant Manager using Windows 8 on the rmserver works fine with Windows 7 work stations. However, we found running Restaurant Manager Windows 7 on the rmserver with Windows 8 workstations did not perform well. errors were seen when datamanipulator was evoked regardless of administrative privileges.

This document does not cover the actual use of Windows 8. This document only addresses Windows 8 setting for use with Restaurant Manager.
