The following steps below should be performed before installing any software on the rmserver or alternate server.
It is REQUIRED that the network adapters in both the Server and the machine that will act as the Alternate Server be named: 'Local Area Connection'
Restart all affected computers after changing network adapter name
If not already done, you must disable IPv6 internet protocol. Failure to do so will lead to "Cannot change IP address" during the failover process. You should disable IPv6 internet protocol on both the rmserver and the backup server computers:
Verify the UAC setting is at the lowest setting on both the rmserver and on the alternate server (altserver)
The Windows User account on both the rmserver and the altserver will need to be configured with the same user name and password. In addition, the user account used on both computers should be assigned administrative privileges.
All computers should have a static IP within the local network. This is necessary so the router does not randomly assign an IP address the wrong IP address to a computer not configured to be the altserver in RMNetMon. Example of a static IP address network scheme is below.
