Return to Previous Topic: Install RmNetMon on all POS Stations

Configure Alternate Server

The alternate server will be the computer that will act as the temporary server when the rmserver computer is not available. This computer can be a dedicated computer, office computer, or a POS station. Note: ONLY one computer should be designated as an "alternate server". Prior to installation, the network adapter should have been configured as follows:

Do not proceed with following instructions until steps above have been completed.

Install RmNetMon

Use the steps in the preceding section to install and configure RmNetMon on the computer that will act as the alternate server. Note that there will be separate settings for the alternate server;

Install Restaurant Manager on Alternate Server

The alternate server will need to run all RM executables from an rmwin folder identical to the rmwin folder on the rmserver. The RM build installed on the alternate server should be the same version as what is installed on the rmserver. However, the RM build installed on the alternate server does not need to be configured. The Syncovery program will populate the rmwin directory with all the necessary rmwin files and keep them up to date as long as Syncovery is running on the rmserver.

  1. Install Restaurant Manager package on alternate server. Choose the demo version when prompted.
  2. Delete the files below after Restaurant Manager has been installed. These files will be replaced automatically later in the initial server synchronization process but you need to make sure there are no unnecessary files carried over from the demo installation (i.e. scr files).

*.db*

*.scr files

*.ntx

  • Use the command prompt "c:\rmwin del *.file". The drive letter may change depending where the rmwin folder is installed. Substitute "file" in the command prompt example with one of the files above (i.e. *.dbf*). Make sure you use the asterisk and period in the command line.
  • Share RMWIN Folder on Alternate Server

You will need to share the rmwin folder on the alternate server computer similar to the rmwin folder on the rmserver. This is essential to make sure Syncovery can send rmwin files to the alternate server in addition to the POS station being able to access the folder in the case of rmserver failure.

    1. Locate and right click on the rmwin folder in the c drive of the alternate server computer.
    2. Select the "Sharing" tab and click "Advanced Sharing"
    3. Enable the "share this folder" option
    4. Click "Permissions" button
    5. make sure the Windows user account (example: posuser (station1\posuser) is present and has the necessary permission. If the Windows user account is not present, use the "Add" button to locate and add the account.
    6. Click "Apply"
    7. Click "OK"

While in the rmwin properties, click the "Security" tab and verify the Windows user account is in the list of Group Names. If the Windows user account is not present, use the "Edit" button and click the "Add" button in the Permissions window to locate and add the account.

Note: Advanced sharing is recommended but if using simple file sharing, select ‘Allow users to change files’
